10a Labs

Machine Learning Fellowship

About 10a Labs:
10a Labs is a fast-growing startup advancing AI safety to tackle society’s most pressing challenges. We specialize in cutting-edge threat intelligence, red teaming for frontier AI models, combating cyber threats, and helping leading U.S. technology companies address complex issues.

Role Overview:
As a Machine Learning Fellow, you will specialize in the design and automation of research experiments, focusing on curating and processing discrete data sources, and using natural language analysis to gain data-driven insight. You will identify and investigate complex networks, recognize emerging trends, and brainstorm innovative research methods. Additionally, you will develop and maintain machine learning models to analyze data, detect patterns or outliers, and streamline processes through new algorithmic approaches. Finally, you will coordinate project timelines for model development and assess model performance to ensure continuous improvement.

In this role, you will:

  • Assist with research experiment design and automation, with a focus on curating,
storing, organizing, and processing information from discrete sources
  • Work with natural language information to derive data-driven insights using a variety
of coding techniques, statistical methods, databases, and tools
  • Identify, investigate, and map various kinds of networks and trends
  • Ideation / brainstorm new research approaches to known and novel problems
  • Work with, develop, and maintain machine learning models to analyze data and identify patterns and/or outliers
  • Research new approaches to help streamline existing processes with the help of
    machine learning algorithms
  • Design project timelines for model development and analyze model performance

Requirements:

  • Strong academic record and quantitative skills
  • Focus on text/data processing
  • Proficiency in Python and LLMs (e.g., GPT-4, LLaMA), including fine-tuning and custom
    training
  • Experience training models on small datasets (<50) and with generative AI fine-tuning
    and in-context learning techniques
  • Clear communicator of technical concepts for non-technical audiences
  • Knowledge of modeling fundamentals, evaluation metrics, and MLOps
  • Computer vision skills (OCR, image classification, deep fake detection)
  • Experience working in cloud environments such as AWS or GCP

Benefits:

  • (Flexible start / end dates)
  • Work remotely, though must be based in the continental U.S.
  • Flexible schedule potentially up to 19.5 hours per week (negotiable)
  • Hourly pay commensurate with experience and qualifications
    • $50 per hour for advanced PhD students
    • $60 per hour for postdocs or non-tenured positions
    • $125 per hour for tenure-track academic
    • Exceptional candidates, including master’s students, undergraduates, or those
without degrees, are encouraged to apply.

At 10a Labs, diversity is central to our mission. We welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds and are committed to creating an inclusive, equitable work environment.
